Stay near Le Morne in La Gaulette
Le Morne brings together the landscapes that define southwest Mauritius: the UNESCO-listed mountain, a turquoise lagoon, a public beach and one of the island's best-known kitesurf areas. La Gaulette is a practical base for exploring them without staying inside a resort.

Le Morne Beach
At the foot of Le Morne Brabant, the public beach has free access, parking and calm lagoon water for swimming. It is also a launch point for kitesurfers. Bring water and sun protection; weekends are usually livelier with Mauritian families.

Hike Le Morne Brabant
The 556-metre mountain has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008, recognising its history as a refuge for people escaping slavery and its enduring symbolism of freedom and resistance.
Allow three to four hours for the round trip. The route is moderate to difficult and the final section is technical; a licensed guide is required. An early 6–7am start helps avoid the heat. Lagoon days beyond the beach
From May to November, regular trade winds make the Le Morne lagoon especially popular for kitesurfing, from flat-water beginner areas to the One Eye wave spot. Local schools offer lessons and equipment. You can also plan a boat day around Benitiers Island or look for dolphins along the southwest coast.
